The Edukators (2005)

The youth want a revolution! In The Edukators, director Hans Weingartner shows three activists fighting for social justice in Germany. Peter and Jan are secret anarchists who break into mansions, rearrange the furniture, and leave a note that reads "You have too much money", signed by "The Edukators". Jule, Peter's girlfriend, protests against the exploitation of child labor in developing countries but owes thousands of euros to a businessman who doesn't really need the money. They want a revolution and they will get it.

"Yes, I've been playing the game but I didn't make up the rules.", says Hardenberg, the rich businessman. "It's not who invented the gun, man. It's who pulls the trigger.", replied Peter.

This movie focuses on how idealism eventually collides with human frailty -- how a loud voice of protest can be silent when confronted with a crude reality. It draws the line between the ones who rule and the ones who are ruled, between intelligence and naïveté. Can we change the world? If we can, what is the path? Will we recognize our ideals after the struggle? In the microcosmic world of its four main characters, filmed both in the city and the rugged vistas of the northern Alps, this picture directly challenges these ideas.

The Edukators has won several prizes in Germany and it is still showing in the E Street Cinemas in DC -- don't miss your chance to enjoy this rebellious thriller.
